Dallas sizzles as a busy centre of business and finance, with a deep interest in sports as
well as western culture. Central Dallas is littered with skyscrapers and neon lights.
The city is famous for being witness to President Kennedy's assassination in 1963, and being
the host of the Dallas TV serial and the Cowboys football team. Deep Ellum is the old warehouse
district, made famous by its music in the 1920s. It is now the fashionable place to go, with
galleries, trendy clothes stores, cafés and clubs.
Shopping
Shopping is a luxurious experience in the Neiman Marcus Department Store on Main St.
Must See
Fair Park: a plaza originally built to house the Texas Centennial Exposition. Inside you will
find several fine museums: the Dallas Museum of Natural History; the Dallas Aquarium; and a
recent addition, the Museum of African Art.
The Dallas Museum of Art: showing European works, American exhibits, including a special
collection of pre-Columbian memorabilia.
The Pegasus Theater, Main St, puts on modern plays and original productions.
Southfork Ranch
25 miles out of town, at Parker, is the television home of the fictional Ewing clan. It has
been kitted out as a mini-theme park, with a museum where tourists can have their photograph
taken in a cowboy hat at JR's desk.
