Jamaica Holidays 2026/2027

Jamaica Holidays

Best hotels in Jamaica

Things to doCurrency

Jamaica holidays with Thomas Cook take you to resorts like Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay, with flights, ATOL protection and a wide range of hotels to choose from. Feel the pull of Jamaica in 2026/2027 – reggae drifting from beach bars, jerk chicken on the grill and a Caribbean Sea that rarely stays out of sight.

There's more to the island than choosing where to put your sun lounger. Climb Dunn's River Falls, swim in the Blue Hole or watch the sun go down from Negril's west coast. With All Inclusive resorts taking care of most meals, drinks and much of the entertainment, there’s less to think about once you’re there. And if your holiday includes flights, you'll be ATOL protected from the moment you book. Still deciding where to go? See our Caribbean & Mexico holidays for inspiration.

Why go to Jamaica?

A direct flight from the UK to Jamaica takes about 10 hours, putting Caribbean beaches, mountain scenery and a very different pace of life within easy reach. The island gets around eight hours of sunshine a day even outside peak season, with sea temperatures rarely dropping below 27°C.

Away from the coast, there’s another side to Jamaica. Take a bamboo raft along the Martha Brae River, head into the Blue Mountains or visit Rose Hall Great House near Montego Bay for a glimpse into Jamaica’s colonial history.

And this is an island where getting out and about pays off. Stop for fresh fruit at a roadside stall, tour a rum estate or spend an afternoon on the water before heading back to your resort. Days here don’t have to follow the same rhythm twice.

Montego Bay

Montego Bay is the place to start if you want more going on outside your resort. The Hip Strip runs along Gloucester Avenue, with restaurants, bars and shops close to the waterfront, while Doctor’s Cave Beach puts clear Caribbean water right in the middle of town.

There’s a playful side to Mo’Bay, too. Stop for a photo with the Usain Bolt statue or spend an evening seeing what’s happening along the Hip Strip. And when you want a day by the sea, snorkelling and boat trips get you out on the water.

Having so much close together means you can decide each day how far you want to venture. Stay by the pool until lunch, head into town later or  make dinner  the start of your evening. It’s a useful set-up for groups too, when not everyone wants to spend their holiday doing the same thing. If you know you’ll want that freedom during the week, find your Montego Bay hotel and keep the action close.

Negril

Negril is the one to choose when your Jamaica plans revolve around the coast. Head south from the main beach and the scenery changes, with limestone cliffs replacing long stretches of shoreline as you reach the West End.

That’s where you’ll find Rick’s Cafe, a Negril institution since 1974. Go for the cliff divers, stay for the sunset, then see where the evening takes you. During the day, snorkelling, paddleboarding and boat trips  give you plenty of reasons to get off your beach towel.

The west-coast setting shapes the whole holiday here. Days can start in the water, move to a beachfront restaurant for lunch and finish with one of those sunsets everyone told you about before you left home. There’s enough happening to stop a beach holiday becoming repetitive, without losing the laid-back reason you came to Negril in the first place. Take a look at our Negril hotels when maximum time by the Caribbean is the plan.

Ocho Rios

Pick Ocho Rios if you’re planning to spend several days out doing things. This north-coast resort is close to  a cluster of Jamaica’s outdoor attractions, which means  time away from the hotel   is a big part of the trip.

Ride the chairlift above the rainforest at Mystic Mountain or tackle the ziplines, river activities and off-road trails at Yaaman Adventure Park. Turtle River Falls & Gardens adds waterfalls and tropical gardens close to town, while Ocho Rios itself has shops and restaurants for slower afternoons.

You don’t have to fill every day with activities either. Leave gaps in the itinerary for the beach, then pick the adventures you’re most excited about once you’re there. That flexibility also helps when families have different ideas about what a day in Jamaica should look like. Make Ocho Rios your base if you want  to  get out and explore for a few days.

Runaway Bay

Runaway Bay takes the pace down a notch. Smaller than Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, this north-coast resort makes more sense when days centre on the hotel, beach and sea rather than shops, bars and a packed itinerary.

That smaller scale is really the point. You can spend more of the week staying local, with a couple of trips out when the mood takes you, rather than feeling that there’s a long checklist to get through. It’s also a useful distinction if nightlife and shopping aren’t deciding factors and you’d rather put the resort itself at the centre of the trip. If that sounds closer to the Jamaica holiday you have in mind, start with our Runaway Bay hotels.

All Inclusive holidays to Jamaica

All Inclusive holidays to Jamaica take care of much of the day-to-day spending before you arrive. Flights, accommodation and your chosen board basis are packaged together, while most meals, drinks and entertainment are typically covered by the resort. Exactly what’s included varies by hotel, so read the full details before you book.

It’s a setup that makes sense in Jamaica, where many resorts have several restaurants, pools, bars and activities on site. Families can look for kids’ clubs, waterparks and family rooms, while couples may prefer adults only hotels with quieter pools, spas and restaurants geared towards evenings for two.

Going All Inclusive doesn’t mean spending the whole week at your resort. Book a day trip, head out for dinner or set aside time to see more of the island, knowing much of your holiday is already paid for.

If having the essentials covered upfront appeals, find your All Inclusive holiday to Jamaica and see exactly what each hotel includes.

When is the best time to visit Jamaica?

Jamaica stays warm throughout the year, with temperatures typically between 25°C and 29°C. December to April brings drier weather, so these are the months to aim for if sunshine and beach days are the priority.

May to June and September to November tend to see more rain. Showers are often short and heavy rather than lasting all day, although tropical weather can be unpredictable. Hurricane season officially runs from June to November, with the greatest risk generally later in the season.

For fewer crowds, look at the shoulder months either side of the busiest winter period. You’ll still get Jamaica’s warm Caribbean temperatures, just be prepared for the odd shower. If weather is the deciding factor, we’d aim for January to March – warm, drier and well timed for swapping the British winter for the Caribbean.

FAQs

Should I go on holiday to Jamaica?

Duh! If rich culture, ramshackle bars and flawless white sand beaches are your cup of tea, then Jamaica should definitely be on your must-visit list. With 24-hour All Inclusives, age-old mansions and 18th-century plantations to explore, alongside its rum tours and spice-filled cuisine - there’s no end to this island’s allures.

But don’t just take our word for it, see what all the fuss is about with our Jamaica deals!

Is Jamaica cheap to go on holiday?

It may not be as cheap as a quick jaunt to Portugal, but holidays to Jamaica can be reasonably budget-friendly. Here are some of our tips and tricks…

1. Check out deals in September/October time AKA low-season when it’s a little quieter.

2. Grab a last-minute bargain! Yep, spur-of-the-moment getaways are where you tend to snap up the best discounts.

3. Dine like the locals and stray away from the tourist hotspots! Murphy’s West End Restaurant is one of our faves.

4. Take advantage of the free things to do. From lazy hammock sunbathing stints to heart-in-your-mouth cliff jumping and Blue Mountain hiking trails.

How does Jamaica compare to Barbados for a holiday?

This is totally dependent on your holiday preference. Jamaica is known for its tranquil setting, coconut-filled palms, cascading waterfalls and natural beauty. Not to mention its 635-mile coastline, compared to the 60-mile stretch of Barbados. Adventure-seekers will love getting lost amidst its green lush mountainous interior, before having a nosey around a museum or two.

But don’t be fooled, Barbados is just as impressive with its line-up of luxurious resorts, world-class dining and cricket scene. Plus it's teeming with sea life at Bell Buoy reef - a snorkeller’s dream. And when you need your culture fix, historic Bridgetown is ready and waiting with its colonial relics.

Decisions, decisions…

Which part of Jamaica is the best to stay?

This is a tough one! Why? Just look at how jaw-droppingly beautiful this island is. Lush tropical landscapes, check. Reef-lined coast, check. And let’s not forget it’s Bob Marley’s birthplace and home to reggae music. So no matter where you end up, Jamaica holidays will blow you away.
