Indonesia - currency

The official currency of Indonesia is the Rupiah (IDR). By law, all transactions must be conducted in Rupiah. Debit and credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, large restaurants and major shops.

Indonesian banknotes are available in denominations of IDR 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000. Coins in circulation include IDR 1,000, 500, 200, 100 and 50.

It is much easier and safer to buy your travel money for Indonesia in the UK. If you need to get additional local currency while abroad, use only licensed currency exchanges, identified by a Bank of Indonesia logo and a QR code. You can scan the code to verify the name of the business and its operating licence.
